Dr. Chandrasekhar Sankurathri
established in 1989 as a registered charitable foundation, Sankurathri
foundation (SF) in Andhra Pradesh, India. This foundation is in loving
memory of his wife, Manjari Sankurathri and two children Srikiran (6
yrs) and Sarada (3 yrs) who were killed in the Air India (Kanishka)
disaster on 23rd June, 1985, off the coast of Ireland. The Foundation
has taken the mandate to promote rural community development through
education, health care and disaster relief programs.
Sankurathri Foundation provide the necessary tools for
the underprivileged persons in order to improve the quality of their
life. The Foundation was registered as a Trust under the rules and
obtained the Income Tax Exemption under US 80G of Income Tax Act, 1961.
Three volunteer Trustees manage the Foundation and all the activities
are planned and supervised by the Executive Trustee, who stays at
Kakinada. The Foundation is also guided by an Advisory Board of nine
people.
The Foundation's activities are
carried from a center established on a serene ten acre plot in a rural
area, 10 km from Kakinada town in Andhra Pradesh state on the southeast
coast of India. It is a town of moderate size with a population of
550,000. This town is the head quarters of the East Godavari district.
This can be reached either by road or train from Chennai (600 kms.),
Hyderabad (560 kms.) or Visakhapatnam (180 kms.). |
