Quality eye care:
Srikiran Institute of ophthalmology
Since its inauguration in January 1993, the Srikiran Institute of Ophthalmology has been providing extensive eye care to people through one base hospital, one city centre, four vision centers, community out reach programs, and children’s outreach program. The base hospital, with 126 beds and modern outpatient facilities, maintains world class standards for providing eye care. Almost 90% of the patients receive free eye care, including surgery. Srikiran’s Community Outreach Program In general, people in rural areas do not seek out medical care. The Srikiran Institute of Ophthalmology has started the Community Outreach Program to take eye care to the door steps of the needy in rural and remote areas through eye camps conducted with the participation of local community. Patients are given preliminary screening for eye ailments, and those requiring surgery are taken to the Institute immediately. All services, including transportation, surgery, medication, food, accommodation, and follow-up visits are provided free of cost. Srikiran’s Ophthalmic Training Programs The Institute offers the following three training programs to practicing ophthalmologists and nursing assistants to upgrade their clinical knowledge and surgical skills:
- Continuing Medical Education Courses:designed to provide opportunities to practicing ophthalmologists
- Fellowships: offered to recent postgraduates to further develop their knowledge and skills in ophthalmology

The confidence and trust exhibited by the patients are a strong testament to the competence and skills of the staff at Srikiran in their work providing world-class eye care.
Over the years, countless voluntary organizations, corporations, and philanthropists have extended their help in sponsoring free eye clinics in the Community Outreach Program. By supporting the Institute in fight against the elimination of avoidable and curable blindness, the following individuals and organizations have shared their inspiration and wisdom. Without them, the successive growth and sustainability we have seen within the Institute would not have been possible.
